Next meeting is on Wednesday the 12th - thats this coming Wednesday. We are having Glen Johnson the well-known historian from Cardigan coming along to give a talk on the Branch Line's influence on Cardigan, and Cardigan Station in particular.
Should prove to be an entertaining evening. All are welcome - you don't have to be a member, just cough up £2.50 towards the evening's expenses!
Staying with the C-B for a moment, Pete Towns came up with this photo on his Loginstation Fb page:
Glogue Village with a Prairie pulling a freight train through to Cardigan. What is remarkable is that this picture had to be 1963 or before, as the last freight was '63. Remarkable also because colour film was in it's infancy back then!
I checked out the location of the cameraman, and the view now is completely obscured by trees and undergrowth.
Just in front of the loco is the Station Master/Crossing Keepers cottage, and we have a much earlier picture of Llewellyn Williams and his family standing outside...
Once again, today this is completely hidden by trees and bushes.

Now onto Chuffers!
Llechryd this week, and there was very nearly only two of us, as Patrick had to dash up to Aberystwyth with his car to have the battery seen to. Luckily his son Daniel was on hand to ferry him back, so he made it in time for our weekly get-together.
It's still too dark and chilly in the conservatory to do any work, but we did run 'Casnewydd' (at least, I think that's what we are calling the new layout) to test Pats new loco, and a new controller that Colin had made to give us slow running.
First of all my meagre offerings - not a lot... Managed to put up the crossing gates and a bit of foliage:
A noticeable lack of drivers in the vehicles - (probably both gone off to get bacon baps from Pat's mobile burger van)
Hopefully we should soon have some figures to go onto the layout, thanks to the efforts of Daniel, and Martyn Buck of Merlins Models, who are both progressing with 3D printing:

Colin is forging on with his re-build of 'Dolgoch' - shown below is the nether regions of the chassis with pick-up wires and a new cylinder block and drive motion.
Pats new loco, the building and painting of which we have been following over the last few meetings was put through it's paces, using col's new controller.
After a frustrating half of an hour cleaning track and wheels, we finally had it running smoothly!
We then watched a couple of DVDs, and repaired to the dining room. I had thrown together some chicken, ginger, garlic, lemon grass, onion and coconut and we sat down to a Thai green curry, with the usual accompaniments - unfortunately Colin was the designated driver, so he had to settle for J20...
